Daric Barton drove in a pair of runs and Ben Sheets regrouped from two dismal outings in helping the Oakland Athletics to a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.

The loss was only the second in 15 games on the road for the Rays, who were off to the best road start in the majors since Detroit went 17-0 in 1984.

Sheets, who had allowed 17 runs on 19 hits over his previous two outings, was much better on Saturday. The veteran right-hander struck out eight and allowed two runs on four hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Three relievers bridged the gap to closer Andrew Bailey, who worked a perfect ninth for his sixth save as he has yet to be scored upon this season.

Oakland staked Sheets a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Ryan Sweeney and Eric Chavez’s sacrifice fly.

The Rays evened the score in the second when John Jaso and Jason Bartlett brought in runs, before Barton’s sacrifice fly in the bottom half pushed Oakland back ahead.

Barton added a seventh-inning single that scored Eric Patterson.

Tampa Bay starter Wade Davis (3-2) lasted five innings and was charged with three runs on six hits.
