Matt LaPorta, who was 4-for-4, and Brantley drove in four runs apiece to lead the 20-hit attack and biggest scoring game for Cleveland since putting up 22 against the New York Yankees on April 18, 2009.

Cleveland starter Josh Tomlin (5-1) allowed one run and five hits in six innings.

Royals starter Kyle Davies (1-6) left the game with a sore right shoulder after walking the bases loaded with one out in the first inning. He was charged with two runs in one-third of an inning.

Cleveland led 3-0 going into the fourth and blew the game open against Vin Mazzaro, the Royals' third pitcher. Orlando Cabrera, who had a two-run single in the first, and Asdrubal Cabrera added RBI singles in the fourth while LaPorta had a two-run double. The Indians had six straight hits with two outs, accounting for nine runs.

LaPorta had another two-run double in the fifth.

Mazzaro allowed 14 earned runs and 11 hits in 2 1/3 innings. Mazzaro is the third major league pitcher since 1947 to allow 14 runs in a game and easily beat the Royals club record of 11.
