Royals 11, Blue Jays 3: Mike Moustakas hit his first career grand slam as part of a five-RBI performance as visiting Kansas City routed Toronto in the opener of a four-game series.

Salvador Perez added a two-run homer and Yuniesky Betancourt also had two RBIs as the Royals notched a season-high run total while snapping a three-game losing skid.

Everett Teaford (1-1) allowed solo homers to Toronto’s Jose Bautista and Colby Rasmus but was otherwise solid, allowing three runs and five hits in seven innings.

Kansas City led 6-3 in the seventh before loading the bases with none out. Betancourt singled in one run before Moustakas smacked a grand slam off the facing beyond the center-field fence off Blue Jays reliever David Pauley, giving the Royals an eight-run advantage.

Perez hit a two-run homer in the second off Ricky Romero (8-3) to give the Royals a 2-1 lead. Betancourt and Moustakas added run-scoring singles in the third.

Bautista’s homer in the third was his major league-leading 27th for the Blue Jays.

Alex Gordon had an RBI single in a two-run fourth that saw Kansas City take a 6-2 lead.

Romero was charged with eight runs and 11 hits in six innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kansas City tied its season high with 14 hits for the third time … Bautista was named American League Player of the Month for June after setting a club record with 14 homers in a single month … Royals center fielder Jason Bourgeois had a season-best three hits … Romero has allowed 16 earned runs in nine innings over his last two starts.
