Pirates 5, Braves 1: Garrett Jones homered and Kevin Correia worked into the seventh inning as host Pittsburgh won back-to-back games for the first time in nearly a month.

Correia (12-11) avoided a career-worst 12th defeat by giving up one run over 6 2/3 frames against the Braves, who rested several regulars after clinching the top National League wild card spot on Monday.

Pittsburgh extended its 2-1 lead with three runs in the fifth off Tommy Hanson (13-10) when Alex Presley doubled in a run and scored on Jones’ two-run blast to right field. The home run was Jones' 27th this season and fourth in his last 11 games.

With his spot in the Braves’ postseason rotation in jeopardy, Hanson allowed five runs over six innings and fell to 1-5 in his last eight starts. Atlanta has scored two or fewer runs in 13 of its past 26 games.

Starling Marte had three hits and two stolen bases for Pittsburgh, which won back-to-back games for the first time since Sept. 4-5. With 79 wins, the Pirates have matched their highest win total of the last 20 years. Pittsburgh last won 79 games in 1997.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Braves RHP Ben Sheets will make his final major-league start on Wednesday before retiring after the game. The 34-year-old Sheets, who will be making his 250th career start, is expected to pitch two innings. … The Pirates are just one home run shy of tying the club record of 171 hit in 1999. … Braves 1B Freddie Freeman was ejected in the eighth inning for arguing a checked-swing call.
