Twins 9, Tigers 3: Ryan Doumit and Darin Mastroianni each had three hits with a homer and three RBIs as host Minnesota snapped a four-game losing streak.

Rookie right-hander Sam Deduno (4-0) cruised through seven innings but exited after giving up three straight hits to open the eighth. He allowed three runs on five hits to drop Detroit to its fifth loss in six games.

Joe Mauer and Jamey Carroll also had three hits for the Twins, who collected 18 in all to beat the Tigers for only the third time in the last 14 games at Target Field.

Anibal Sanchez (1-3) struggled again in his fourth start for Detroit, giving up five runs on a season-high 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings as the Tigers remained two games back of division-leading Chicago in the AL Central.

Mastroianni belted a go-ahead homer off Sanchez in the fifth inning and a two-run single off Phil Coke in the sixth for a 5-1 lead. Doumit's three-run blast in the seventh made it 8-1.

Jhonny Peralta had an RBI double and Miguel Cabrera and Delmon Young added RBI singles for Detroit, which squandered a chance to gain ground in the division race after the White Sox lost in Toronto.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Deduno walked five batters for the fourth time in seven starts. He has more walks (30) than strikeouts (28). ... Cabrera drove in his 99th run to tie Josh Hamilton for the major league lead and put him one shy of his ninth straight 100-RBI season. ... Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (bruised right thumb) was back in the lineup for the first time since July 20, the day in which he had a 17-game hitting streak snapped. The team demoted INF Tsuyoshi Nishioka to Triple-A Rochester to open a roster spot for Plouffe. .... Coke has given up at least one hit in nine straight appearances and 15 total in his last seven innings. ... Twins CF Denard Span sat out Monday after hurting his collarbone while attempting to make a catch in Sunday's game against Tampa Bay. ... Tigers RHP Brayan Villarreal underwent an MRI exam that revealed no structural damage in his elbow. He is not expected to pitch in the series.
