: Ryan Doumit homered and Scott Diamond tossed seven scoreless innings in his season debut as the Twins recorded their first shutout win of the campaign.

The Twins posted three runs in the first inning on Josh Willingham’s RBI double and Doumit’s two-run blast off Dan Haren (1-3), who allowed five runs on eight hits over 3 2/3 innings.

Diamond (1-0) gave up four hits with one walk and six strikeouts in his first start since being called up from Triple-A Rochester on Monday.

Diamond, who replaced struggling Liam Hendriks in the rotation, retired the final 11 batters he faced in his eighth major league start.

The Twins, who had 20 total hits in their previous six games, registered 12 against the Angels and went 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Minnesota added to its lead in the fourth inning on Erik Komatsu’s sacrifice fly and Brian Dozier’s run-scoring single.

The Twins snapped their three-game losing streak and won for the fourth time in their last 16 games.
