Angels 7, Padres 2: Jered Weaver pitched seven solid innings and Mike Trout had three hits, including an RBI triple, as visiting Los Angeles opened interleague play with its third win in four games.

Weaver (6-1), who improved to 11-3 in 19 interleague starts and 6-0 in his last nine, allowed two runs and three hits in seven innings. Two of Weaver’s three walks were issued to lead off the seventh, but he limited the damage to a run-scoring fielder’s choice by Alexi Amarista.

Will Venable homered for the Padres (14-26), who have the worst record in the National League.

Jeff Suppan (2-2) allowed four runs on six hits and walked five in five innings. The rough outing nearly doubled his ERA from 1.69 to 3.00.

The Angels scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead and put the game away with three more in the ninth.

After Weaver led off the fifth with a single, Trout tripled him home. Following a one-out walk to Albert Pujols, Mark Trumbo doubled in Trout before Pujols scored on Vernon Wells’ fielder’s choice to make it 4-0.

Erick Aybar capped the scoring with a two-run double after Howard Kendrick’s RBI single made it 5-2.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pujols, who had homered in his previous two games, went 1-for-4 with a walk to raise his average to .215. … It was the Angels’ first game at Petco Park and first appearance in San Diego since 2000. … Los Angeles leads the series 12-11. … The Angels went 13-5 in interleague play in 2011.
