Braves 10, Diamondbacks 1:
Justin Upton homered among his four hits and drove in two runs against his former team as visiting Atlanta routed Arizona in the opener of the three-game series.

Former Diamondback Chris Johnson homered and had three RBIs for the Braves, who have won nine of their last 11 meetings against the Diamondbacks. Brian McCann contributed a solo homer and three RBIs, and Upton and Johnson each came within a triple of hitting for the cycle.

Mike Minor (5-2) settled in after allowing a first-inning home run to Paul Goldschmidt and recorded his third straight quality start before leaving after 6 2/3 frames. After losing their last three games to San Francisco by a combined 23-4, Atlanta exploded for 13 hits, including seven for extra bases.

Johnson, who snapped an 0-for-18 skid with a third-inning single, belted a two-run homer off Wade Miley (3-2) in the fifth to give Atlanta a 3-1 lead. The Braves extended their lead in the sixth when they sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs on four hits.

Upton, who was traded along with Johnson to Atlanta in January as part of a seven-player deal, sparked the four-run rally with a two-run homer after his brother B.J. was hit by a pitch leading off the inning.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Braves CF B.J. Upton left the game with a left shoulder contusion after being hit by the pitch. He is listed as day-to-day. … McCann has three home runs in his past four games. …. Miley allowed seven runs (six earned) over five innings.
