Cardinals 4, Phillies 3: Carlos Beltran swatted a tiebreaking opposite-field homer to left in the eighth inning to lift visiting St. Louis past Philadelphia.

Yadier Molina had a two-run double and Adam Wainwright (3-1) allowed three runs and nine hits in seven innings as the Cardinals handed the Phillies their fourth straight defeat. Edward Mujica struck out pinch hitter Laynce Nix to end the eighth and worked out of a jam in the ninth for his first save.

Beltran was batting left-handed when he sent a pitch from Mike Adams (0-1) over the left-field fence. Adams replaced Cole Hamels, who struck out eight while allowing three runs and five hits in seven innings.

Molina went 3-for-4 and his double just inside the right-field line gave St. Louis a 2-0 edge in the fourth. Freddy Galvis delivered a run-scoring double in the sixth and scored on Chase Utley’s single as Philadelphia tied it up.

The Cardinals took a 3-2 lead in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Pete Kozma. The Phillies tied the score in the bottom of the inning on a run-scoring single by Erik Kratz.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Philadelphia OF Ben Revere was hitless in 16 consecutive at-bats before singling to lead off the ninth. … The save was the fifth of Mujica’s career. … Phillies LHP John Lannan (quadriceps) was placed on the disabled list and will be sidelined from six to eight weeks.
