Cardinals 5, White Sox 3:
David Freese homered and drove in three runs as St. Louis closed a midweek interleague set with back-to-back wins.

Freese put the Cardinals on top in the second inning with an RBI double and added a two-run homer in the third to make it 3-0. Matt Adams drove in what proved to be the decisive runs with a two-run base hit in the fifth inning.

St. Louis starter Jake Westbrook (5-6) limited the White Sox to just two hits through the first five innings before losing his shutout bid in the sixth on Adam Dunn’s two-out, three-run homer. Chicago put the tying runs on base in the seventh inning against Eduardo Sanchez, but Victor Marte came on to finish out the inning and Jason Motte worked a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.

Gavin Floyd (4-7) took the loss, allowing eight hits and four walks over 4 2/3 innings. Westbrook gave up five hits in six innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The White Sox had won their last 11 interleague road series before this week ... Cardinals SS Rafael Furcal snapped a 0-for-23 slump with a ninth-inning single. He was promptly caught stealing second base.
