Diamondbacks 2, Royals 0: Wade Miley pitched seven strong innings to outduel Nate Adcock, and John McDonald and Justin Upton drove in runs as Arizona took the rubber game from host Kansas City.

Paul Goldschmidt and Gerardo Parra each scored a run for the Diamondbacks, who have won three of four.

Miley (5-1) allowed six hits and walked a pair while striking out three in his longest start of the season. The 25-year old left-hander has posted a 1.91 ERA in six starts since moving into the rotation on Apr. 23.

Adcock (0-2) was solid in a spot start, surrendering one run on five hits while walking one and striking out three in five innings. The 24-year-old right-hander was plucked out of Triple-A on Saturday to replace Everett Teaford, who was scheduled to start on Sunday but had to be placed on the disabled list with a lower abdominal strain.

Arizona broke a scoreless tie in the fifth, when Goldschmidt led off with a double and moved to third on Aaron Hill’s single. First baseman Eric Hosmer could not handle McDonald’s grounder and Goldschmidt scored easily.

The Diamondbacks tacked on an insurance run on Upton’s sacrifice fly in the eighth.

David Hernandez worked out of a jam in the eighth and J.J. Putz pitched a perfect ninth to earn his ninth save for Arizona.
