Cardinals 5, Braves 2: Allen Craig went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Lance Lynn snapped a four-start winless streak as host St. Louis captured the series opener.

Yadier Molina, Kolten Wong, Matt Adams and Matt Carpenter added two hits apiece, helping pace a 13-hit attack as the Cardinals improved to 3-1 against Atlanta this season. Lynn (5-2), who won his first four starts, gave up two runs on seven hits in seven innings and Trevor Rosenthal pitched the ninth for his 12th save.

Atlanta starter Ervin Santana (4-1) struggled in his shortest outing of the season, surrendering five runs on 10 hits in five innings. Chris Johnson went 2-for-4 but the Braves – who lost eight games in April – dropped to 5-9 in May.

St. Louis rallied from a 2-1 deficit, tying the game in the fourth when Craig singled to center and later scored on Santana’s wild pitch. The Cardinals plated three runs in the fifth on Matt Holliday’s double, Craig’s single and Molina’s sacrifice fly to build a 5-2 advantage.

Tyler Pastornicky gave the Braves a 1-0 lead in the second on a single to center, but the Cardinals evened the score in the home half of the frame on Adams’ double off B.J. Upton’s glove in deep center, scoring Craig. Johnson doubled to right leading off the fourth and scored on Andrelton Simmons’ double-play grounder to provide Atlanta a short-lived 2-1 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: St. Louis CF Peter Bourjos and manager Mike Matheny were ejected by home plate umpire Sean Barber at the end of the fourth for arguing balls and strikes. … Molina extended his hitting streak to five games, recording multiple hits in four of those contests. … Johnson raised his average to .377 in May and has seven multi-hit games in his past 11.
