Royals 9, Indians 5: Eric Hosmer went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs while Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas also went deep as host Kansas City posted its third straight victory.

Billy Butler added two hits and two RBIs while Omar Infante drove in a run and scored twice for the Royals, who have won eight of their last 12. Jason Vargas (6-2) allowed three runs and six hits with five strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings en route to his fourth win in five decisions and Aaron Crow notched his first save despite yielding two runs in 1 1/3 frames.

Jason Kipnis drove in a pair of runs and Carlos Santana recorded two hits and an RBI for the Indians, who lost for just the second time in 11 games. Corey Kluber (6-4) suffered his first loss since April 29, surrendering six runs - three earned - and six hits in five innings.

Kansas City took control in the third inning, staging a four-run rally that was aided by an error by Cleveland shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera that loaded the bases with one out. Infante followed with an RBI single and Hosmer plated a run with a groundout before Butler capped the uprising with a two-run base hit.

The Royals added to their lead in the fifth as Infante drew a two-out walk and Hosmer launched a 1-0 pitch over the wall in right-center field for his third blast of the season and a 6-0 advantage. After Cleveland halved the deficit in the eighth, Kansas City added insurance in the bottom half on Gordon's leadoff homer and a two-run shot by Moustakas before the Indians scored twice in the ninth.
