Royals 5, Tigers 2: Omar Infante delivered a tiebreaking two-run single during a five-run seventh inning and host Kansas City snapped Detroit’s five-game winning streak.

Justin Verlander (8-8) cruised through the first five frames before the Royals rallied from a 2-0 deficit by sending 11 batters to plate and scoring five runs on six hits in the seventh. Eric Hosmer capped the outburst with an RBI double that extended his hitting streak to a career-best 13 games.

Yordano Ventura (7-7) worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his first career relief appearance and Greg Holland retired the Tigers in order in the ninth for his 25th save. Starting pitcher Bruce Chen allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings for Kansas City, which won for the first time in seven home games against Detroit this season

Detroit scored two runs in the third as Rajai Davis and Austin Jackson opened with back-to-back singles and Davis scored on Miguel Cabrera’s sacrifice fly. J.D. Martinez added an RBI single for the Tigers, who enter the All-Star break with a 6 1/2-game lead over second-place Kansas City in the American League Central.

The Royals had scored a total of six runs in the first 33 innings of the series before erupting for five in the sixth against Verlander and three relievers. Martinez and Davis had three hits apiece for Detroit, which outscored Kansas City by a 49-14 margin in the previous six games at Kauffman Stadium this season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Verlander allowed four runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings and lost for the first time since June 16. … Every Kansas City batter in the staring lineup recorded a hit except for leadoff hitter Norichika Aoki, who went 0-for-4 with a walk. … Detroit DH Victor Martinez missed his seventh straight game with a strained back but is expected to return on Friday in the Tigers’ first game following the All-Star break.
