Royals 3, Rockies 2: Mike Moustakas broke out of a slump with a three-run double among his pair of two-base hits as host Kansas City finished a two-game sweep of Colorado.

Jason Vargas (4-1) yielded two runs, five hits and struck out a season-high eight in 6 2/3 innings to improve to 15-5 lifetime in May. Greg Holland earned his 10th save in 11 opportunities after striking out Drew Stubbs with runners on first and third in the ninth as the Royals won for the sixth time in their last eight games.

Stubbs hit a two-run homer for the Rockies, who capped a 2-5 road trip with their first three-game losing streak of the season. Jhoulys Chacin (0-2) yielded three runs and seven hits in six innings in his third start of 2014.

Chacin retired the side in the first before Kansas City's bats came to life in the second. Salvador Perez, Johnny Giavotella and Lorenzo Cain ripped singles before Moustakas, who is hitting .161, crushed a 1-1 offering down the right field line to clear the bases and equal his RBI total from his previous 15 games.

Nolan Arenado's pop-up into short right-center fell between three Royals for a double with one out and Stubbs hit Vargas' final pitch - a 3-1 offering - into Kansas City's bullpen two batters later. Louis Coleman recorded the final out of the seventh and Kelvin Herrera retired the side in order in the eighth for Kansas City.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki, who leads the majors with a .391 batting average, was ejected in the fourth inning by home plate umpire Dan Bellino after arguing a called third strike. ... Kansas City batters struck out only once in the two games while Colorado hitters fanned 23 times. ... The Rockies have lost two straight series after going 6-0-2 in their previous eight sets.
