Royals 3, Padres 1 (11): Alex Gordon singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th inning as visiting Kansas City defeated San Diego to snap a five-game losing streak.

Eric Hosmer led off the 11th with a double and scored on Gordon’s one-out liner to right field before Billy Butler’s two-base hit provided more cushion for the Royals. Salvador Perez belted a solo homer, Wade Davis (2-1) pitched two scoreless innings for the win and Greg Holland notched his eighth save.

Yasmani Grandal slammed a solo homer and Seth Smith had a pair of hits for the Padres, who had won their last two games in walk-off fashion. Nick Vincent (0-1) allowed two runs on three hits in the 11th to suffer the loss for San Diego.

Grandal snapped a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a blast to right field on a 2-1 pitch for his second homer in his third lifetime at-bat versus Kansas City starter Jeremy Guthrie. Perez matched him in the sixth with a leadoff homer into the left-field seats for his third of the season.

San Diego starter Robbie Erlin yielded only one run on three hits over seven innings and Guthrie allowed one run on four hits in the first eight frames. Alcides Escobar (two hits) reached on an infield single in the ninth and stole two bases before being cut down trying to score on Lorenzo Cain’s foul out by first baseman Kyle Blanks.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kansas City won for the first time in eight all-time games at San Diego. … Grandal boasts three of his four homers and six of 11 RBIs in the last five contests. … Perez, who threw out two baserunners trying to steal Tuesday, is 4-for-9 in the series after being limited to one hit in 12 at-bats the previous four games and Gordon was 0-for-10 before his game-winning hit.
