Rays 6, Cardinals 3: Desmond Jennings recorded two RBIs with a pair of hits as Tampa Bay defeated visiting St. Louis to snap a four-game losing streak.

Ben Zobrist had two hits and scored a run while Kevin Kiermaier made a dazzling catch at a key time to help the Rays split the two-game series. Juan Carlos Oviedo (2-2) was awarded the win after retiring four batters and Grant Balfour pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings for his 10th save as Tampa Bay’s bullpen completed five scoreless frames.

Yadier Molina registered two singles and two RBIs while Mark Ellis and Jon Jay each collected two hits as the Cardinals saw their three-game win streak end. Michael Wacha (4-5) yielded four runs on four hits over five innings to lose for the fifth time in five road decisions this season.

Matt Carpenter’s RBI single pushed the Cardinals’ advantage to 3-0 lead in the fourth, but the Rays snapped a 31-inning scoreless streak with four runs in their half of the inning. Matt Joyce singled home the first run with two outs and another came home on an error before Jennings knocked in two with a bases-loaded single.

Kiermaier made his diving, backhand stab in right-center on Peter Bourjos’ drive with the bases loaded and two outs to preserve the Rays’ lead in the fifth. Jennings singled and Kiermaier walked with one out in the seventh before Evan Longoria plated one with a single and James Loney’s sacrifice fly made it 6-3.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Former St. Louis manager and Tampa native Tony La Russa, who will be inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame on July 27, threw out the ceremonial first pitch. … The Rays optioned C Ali Solis to Triple-A Durham to make room on the roster for C Ryan Hanigan, who was activated from the disabled list and went 0-for-3 with a walk. … Tampa Bay starter Erik Bedard gave up three runs on eight hits over four innings while throwing 80 pitches.
