Tigers 2, Royals 1:
J.D. Martinez hit a tiebreaking homer and Anibal Sanchez pitched seven strong innings as host Detroit ended Kansas City’s 10-game winning streak.

Miguel Cabrera added a run-scoring double for the Tigers, who salvaged the finale of the four-game set. Detroit trails the Royals by a half-game in the American League Central after ending Kansas City’s longest winning stretch since a 14-gamer in 1994.

Sanchez (4-2) allowed one run and five hits while winning his fourth consecutive decision. Joba Chamberlain pitched a scoreless eighth and Joe Nathan struck out the side in the ninth for his 14th save.

Royals starter Danny Duffy (4-6) allowed two runs on three hits in seven innings while taking the hard-luck loss. Kansas City’s lone run came in the first when Norichika Aoki led off the game with a double and scored on Billy Butler’s two-out double to right.

Austin Jackson singled in the fourth and scored on Cabrera’s double to tie the score. Cabrera was doubled off base on Victor Martinez's fly out prior to J.D. Martinez hitting the opposite-field blast over the right-field fence to put the Tigers ahead.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Royals LF Alex Gordon (flu-like symptoms) was a late scratch and missed his first game of the season. … J.D. Martinez was 7-for-14 with three homers and six RBIs in the four-game series and has hit in nine straight overall. … Duffy dropped to 1-5 in eight career starts against the Tigers.
