Royals 8, Angels 3: Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas homered while Alex Gordon drilled a three-run double as host Kansas City defeated Los Angeles to sweep their American League Division Series.

Nori Aoki went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Royals, who will face the Baltimore Orioles in the AL Championship Series, beginning Friday in Baltimore. James Shields (1-0) allowed two runs and six hits in six innings while Greg Holland worked a perfect ninth in a non-save situation for Kansas City, which last played in the ALCS in 1985 and went on to win the World Series.

Albert Pujols and Mike Trout homered while Erick Aybar went 4-for-4 for the Angels, who had the best record in the AL before scoring just six runs in the series. Starter C.J. Wilson (0-1) retired only two batters and was pulled after giving up three runs, three hits and one walk.

Trout homered in the first, but Wilson struggled in the bottom of the inning and was lifted after Gordon clubbed a three-run double to left-center field. Aoki walked to lead off the third before Hosmer belted a one-out blast off Hector Santiago well over the wall in left-center to make it 5-1.

Pujols homered in the fourth for Los Angeles, but Moustakas answered with a one-out shot in the bottom half and Lorenzo Cain added a sacrifice fly later in the frame. Aoki’s RBI single to center in the sixth made it 8-2 before Los Angeles tallied in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Josh Hamilton.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pujols’ homer was the 19th of his postseason career. He moved into fourth place on the all-time list, snapping a tie with Mickey Mantle and Reggie Jackson. … Los Angeles had runners on first and second with one out in the fifth inning before Cain made back-to-back diving catches to keep the lead at five runs. … Royals DH Billy Butler recorded a stolen base, his first since July 5, 2012.
