Giants 5, Royals 0: Madison Bumgarner pitched a four-hitter, Brandon Crawford drove in three runs and Juan Perez smacked a two-run double as host San Francisco blanked Kansas City to take a 3-2 lead in the World Series.

Bumgarner (4-1) struck out eight without a walk in tossing the first shutout in World Series play since Florida's Josh Beckett accomplished the feat in 2003 while improving his career record in the Fall Classic to 4-0. Crawford, Travis Ishikawa, Hunter Pence and Pablo Sandoval had two hits apiece for the Giants, who will try to clinch their third title in five seasons when the teams meet for Game 6 in Kansas City on Tuesday.

James Shields (1-2) allowed two runs and eight hits over six innings in his best outing of the playoffs. But Bumgarner was much better as he joined Whitey Ford (1960), Sandy Koufax (1965) and Randy Johnson (2001) as the only left-handers with two shutouts in a single postseason.

Pence singled to lead off the second inning and Brandon Belt followed with a bunt single toward shortstop. After a flyout to center moved Pence to third, Crawford’s groundout to second base gave the Giants a 1-0 edge.

Sandoval and Ishikawa each singled in the fourth before Crawford dropped a two-out base hit into shallow center field to plate a run and double the lead. Perez laced a two-run double off the top of the fence in left-center in the eighth and scored on Crawford's bloop single to left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Bumgarner has allowed one run in 31 innings – his 0.29 ERA is the lowest in history – over four career World Series starts. … Kansas City LF Alex Gordon was hitless in four at-bats and is 2-for-20 in the series. … Pence, who is batting .474 in the series, was robbed of a two-run double when Royals RF Lorenzo Cain ranged deep into the gap in right-center to make an inning-ending catch in the fifth.
