Yangervis Solarte also homered for the Blue Jays (12-5), who have won four straight. The Royals (3-13) saw their losing streak reach eight games.

Whit Merrifield and Jorge Soler hit their first homers of the season for Kansas City.

Royals starter Ian Kennedy (1-2) allowed six runs (four earned), eight hits, and three walks while striking out six in five innings.

Toronto starter J.A. Happ (3-1) allowed four runs, five hits and two walks in six innings. He fanned eight.

The Blue Jays scored a first-inning run on a single by Hernandez and a double by Justin Smoak.

Mike Moustakas stretched his hitting streak to 10 games with a two-run double in the third that gave the Royals a 2-1 lead.

The Blue Jays went ahead 4-2 on a three-run bottom of the third. Granderson walked and Hernandez hit his first homer of the season. Solarte followed with his fourth homer of the season.

The Royals tied the game at 4 in the fifth when Merrifield homered after a leadoff single by Jon Jay.

The Blue Jays took a 6-4 lead on two unearned runs in the fifth. Solarte walked, Kevin Pillar singled, and left fielder Paulo Orlando dropped Randal Grichuk's fly ball, allowing a run to score. Pinch hitter Luke Maile added an RBI single.

Toronto added three runs in the seventh. Royals reliever Kevin McCarthy was charged with a wild pitch on ball four to Granderson to score Grichuk, who had been hit by a pitch and took to third on Maile's double. Hernandez hit a two-run triple.

Soler homered in the eighth against Toronto reliever Aaron Loup.

Pillar had an RBI double against Royals reliever Justin Grimm in the six-run eighth for his third hit of the game, extending his hitting streak to nine games. Grimm also allowed an RBI single to Aledmys Diaz and Granderson's second homer of the season.
