Phil Jones' basket with 7.4 seconds left gave host Charlotte a 49-48 upset victory over No. 7 Tennessee on Friday night.
It was the second straight stunning loss for the Volunteers (7-2), who were defeated by Oakland at home 89-82 on Tuesday.
Jamar Briscoe had 14 points, five rebounds and four assists, including one on Jones' basket, and Derrio Green scored 13 for the 49ers (5-6), who shot 30.2 percent from the field. Jones had eight points.
Tennessee led 24-20 at halftime, and 48-42 with 2:32 left, but a Javarris Barnett 3-pointer - his only points of the game - and two free throws by Briscoe set the stage for Jones.
Scotty Hopson had a team-high 13 points on 6-of-19 shooting for the Volunteers, who shot 34.9 percent from field.
