Fuquan Edwin collected 24 points, nine rebounds and five steals as surging Seton Hall held off host Providence 66-57 on Saturday.
Jordan Theodore added 14 points and nine assists and Herb Pope chipped in 11 points and 10 boards for the Pirates (14-2, 3-1 Big East), who have won 11 of 12.
Seton Hall could find itself in the Top 25 for the first time since 2001 when the new poll is released Monday.
The Pirates pushed the lead to as much as 53-43 on Pope’s layup with 11:01 left but went without a field goal for nearly eight minutes, allowing Providence to creep back into the game.
The Friars would draw to within 54-53 when Bryce Cotton hit three free throws at the 3:40 mark, but Seton Hall woke up on the following possession, ending the drought with Theodore’s jumper.
Providence turned it over at the other end and Edwin drove in transition, hitting a layup and completing a three-point play. Four straight free throws by Theodore and the Pirates had pushed it back to a 10-point edge with less than a minute to play.
Vincent Council kept Providence (11-6, 0-4) in the game with 23 points, nine assists and six rebounds.
