No. 12 Cincinnati 72, Marshall 56: Cashmere Wright had 14 points, including three big 3-pointers in the middle of the second half, as the Bearcats pulled away from the host Thundering Herd.
Wright’s 3-pointers helped Cincinnati (10-0) put together a run that turned a four-point lead into a 52-39 advantage with 11:45 remaining in the game. Sean Kilpatrick added 13 points and Justin Jackson had 10 for the Bearcats, who shot 61.5 percent from the field in the second half.
D.D. Scarver and Elijah Pittman scored 20 points apiece to lead the way for Marshall (6-5), which had won four of its last five coming in. The Thundering Herd had 12 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes and 20 for the game.
Marshall was without leading scorer and point guard DeAndre Kane, who missed his first game of the season with a hand injury. Kane also came into the contest second in the nation in assists (8.5 per game).
Cincinnati led by as much as seven in the first half, but made just one of its 11 attempts from 3-point range. Marshall made all five of its 3-pointers, three by Scarver, to pull within 29-25 at halftime.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Cincinnati had 40 points in the paint to 16 for the Thundering Herd. … Marshall’s Dennis Tinnon, who had 15 points and 14 rebounds in the 73-69 overtime win at Cincinnati last season, was held to two points and seven rebounds. … Cincinnati leads the series, 20-12.
