West Virginia 76, Oakland 71: Aaric Murray came off the bench to score 12 as the host Mountaineers edged the Golden Grizzlies.
Three West Virginia starters scored in double figures. Juwan Staten finished with 11, and Keaton Miles and Terry Henderson each added 10.
Oakland (4-8) led for a majority of the first half, but West Virginia (5-5) pulled within two entering the break. An 8-0 run early in the second half allowed the Mountaineers to regain the lead.
Junior guard Travis Bader scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Golden Grizzlies. Senior forward Drew Valentine added 15, and 6-10 sophomore Corey Petros finished with 14.
Bader picked up his fourth foul with 12:01 to go and sat until 9:42 remained. During that time, West Virginia went on a 7-2 run, but his 3-pointer with 2:29 left tied the game at 71. Bader then missed a triple that would have tied it at 74 as time wound down.
