South Carolina 65, Missouri 60: Sindarius Thornwell scored 14 points and Laimonas Chatkevicius added 13 points to lift the host Gamecocks to their second victory in eight games.
Duane Notice and Mindaugas Kacinas contributed nine points each, and South Carolina (12-11, 3-8 SEC) forced 15 turnovers to snap a two-game skid and hand Missouri (7-17, 1-10) its 10th consecutive defeat. The Gamecocks shot 36.5 percent from the field but recorded 10 steals.
Keith Shamburger scored 13 points for the undermanned Tigers, and Wes Clark scored all 11 of his points in the first half before leaving in the second half with an elbow injury. Missouri, which played without three players due to suspensions or disciplinary reasons, has lost 10 in a row for the first time since a 12-game slide in 1966-67.
Missouri trailed 52-42 with less than seven minutes remaining before using a 9-2 run to draw within 54-51 on Jakeenan Gant’s dunk with three minutes to play. Thornwell hit a 3-pointer with 2:21 to go to extend the Gamecocks' lead to six, and after Shamburger’s basket cut the deficit to four, Chatkevicius hit a jumper and Kacinas made two free throws to push the South Carolina lead to 61-53 with 39.7 seconds left.
Notice hit two 3-pointers during an early 12-0 run that put the Gamecocks ahead 12-2, but Shamburger fueled a 10-2 burst with eight points before Clark scored all of his points in the final 10 minutes of the first half as Missouri forged a tie at 30 entering intermission. Johnathan Williams III’s basket in the opening minute of the second half gave the Tigers their first lead, but South Carolina answered with a 9-2 spurt midway through the half to take a 52-42 advantage.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Missouri played without Gs Montaque Gill-Caesar, Namon Wright and Tramaine Isabell. … South Carolina held Missouri scoreless for more than six minutes early in the first half. … F D’Angelo Allen finished with 10 points for Missouri, including a four-point play in the final seconds to cut the final margin to five.
