Placing all five starters in double figures, Milwaukee pulled away in the final 15 minutes Wednesday night to notch a 74-65 nonconference win over Minnesota at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.
Point guard Jordan Johnson led the Panthers (9-4) with 19 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Guard Akeem Springs added 15 points, while center J.J. Panoske hit for 12. Forwards Matt Tiby and Austin Arians each scored 10 points.
Guard Carlos Morris tossed in a game-high 24 points for the Golden Gophers (6-6), canning 10-of-17 field goals. Freshman forward Jordan Murphy bagged a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double in his first career start and forward Joey King netted 10 points.
Milwaukee led 37-32 at halftime, but Minnesota hit it with an 11-4 burst to start the second half, grabbing a 43-41 edge at the 15:38 mark when Morris converted a layup. But the Panthers regained the lead for good less than a minute later as Springs hit a layup.
Milwaukee expanded its advantage to 12 points with 4:41 left on Panoske's layup and nursed the lead to the finish line, sinking 7-of-10 free throws in the final 1:06.
The Panthers canned 50.8 percent of their field-goal attempts while owning a 41-31 edge in rebounding.
