Penn State using a balanced scoring attack to roll to a 91-64 win over Wagner on Saturday afternoon in State College, Pa.
Five players scored in double figures for the Nittany Lions (2-0), who have beaten their first two opponents by a combined 65 points. PSU crushed Maryland-Eastern Shore 84-46 on Tuesday, with six Lions getting 10 or more in that game.
Sophomore guard Myreon Jones had 14 points, senior forward Lamar Stevens had 13, redshirt sophomore guard Izaiah Brockington and freshman forward Seth Lundy had 12 apiece, and junior guard Jamari Wheeler added 10 for PSU, which held Wagner (0-2) to 5 of 18 on 3-point shooting.
In two games the Nittany Lions have held opponents to 24.3 percent (9 of 37) from outside.
Penn State held a 37-30 halftime lead despite shooting only 38.2 percent and missing six of 13 free throws. The Nittany Lions then opened the second half on a 13-1 run, with Wagner missing its first eight shots and not getting on the scoreboard until the 16:14 mark.
A 9-0 PSU run upped the lead to 59-38 with 11:55 left, and the Lions kept the margin over 20 for the final 11 minutes.
Wagner, playing with a short lineup because of injuries, had three players foul out. The Seahawks got 19 points from senior guard Curtis Cobb III and 18 from junior guard Alex Morales.
Penn State, which has won eight consecutive nonconference games at the Bryce Jordan Center, hits the road for its next game, taking on Georgetown on Thursday as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games between the Big Ten and Big East conferences. Wagner plays its home opener Tuesday against Division III Wesley (Del.).
