Lamar Stevens scored 24 points, Myreon Jones added 20 and visiting No. 22 Penn State defeated No. 16 Michigan State 75-70 on Tuesday.

Mike Watkins had 10 points for the Nittany Lions (17-5, 7-4), who won their fifth in a row. It was their first win at Michigan State since 2008-09.

Stevens sank a pair of free throws to give Penn State a 71-68 lead with 16 seconds left.

Michigan State's Cassius Winston then drove to the basket and scored with 11.1 seconds remaining, but missed the free throw.

Winston scored 25 points and Xavier Tillman had nine points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots.

The Spartans (16-7, 8-4) had been 23-1 all-time at home against Penn State before this game.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo was whistled for a technical foul with 12:34 remaining in the first half and the game tied at 15. Winston appeared to hit a 3-pointer with a chance at a four-point play, but the referee called Winston for an offensive foul instead. For the next minute, Izzo was visibly upset, which led to the technical foul.

When Stevens drained a trey from the corner, Penn State moved ahead 22-21 with 7:43 left in the first half. Following a turnover by Tillman, Stevens responded with a tough jumper in the lane and a three-point advantage. Jones soon knocked down a 3-pointer to extend the Nittany Lions' lead to 31-21.

Winston had a couple of late baskets and Michigan State received a break when Penn State head coach Pat Chambers was called for a technical with 0.4 seconds remaining. The Spartans trailed only 43-37 at halftime.

The Nittany Lions pulled out to an early 10-point lead after halftime, but Michigan State came right back with a 12-2 run.

With the game tied at 55, Penn State received treys from Myles Dread and Jones for a 61-55 with 8:23 remaining. But an 8-0 run by Michigan State gave it a 63-61 advantage.

Winston missed an off-balance 3-pointer trailing 67-66 and Stevens was fouled, going to the free throw line with 1:33 left. Stevens made one of two for a 68-66 Penn State lead.
