Kam Jones made five 3-pointers and finished with 22 points as No. 20 Marquette pulled away in the second half to earn a 74-53 victory over Seton Hall on Saturday in Newark, N.J.
Jones made 8 of 14 shots from the field and picked up three steals to help the Golden Eagles (16-5, 8-2 Big East) snap the Pirates' season-best four-game winning streak. Oso Ighodaro supplied 18 points and six rebounds, while Olivier-Maxence Prosper and Chase Ross each added eight points.
Kadary Richmond led Seton Hall (12-9, 5-5) with 10 points but exited the game in the second half due to a head injury. Tae Davis and Tyrese Samuel each notched eight points for the Pirates, who were held back by a season-high 26 turnovers.
Seton Hall made just six field goals following halftime.
Ighodaro was dominant through the first seven minutes of the second half, scoring 10 points to help the Golden Eagles open a 58-39 lead. By making just four field goals over the first 13:36 of the half, the Pirates couldn't stay in contention, and Marquette cruised to victory.
Ross put the finishing touches on the win when he threw down a left-handed tomahawk dunk over KC Ndefo with 5:38 to play for a 64-48 lead. Ross then had some words for Ndefo after the slam.
After the Golden Eagles went up by seven, Seton Hall clawed back and drew even at 24-24 on Dre Davis' layup with 5:54 left in the first half.
However, Jones caught fire, scoring 11 points to commandeer a 13-5 surge that sent Marquette into the break with a 37-29 advantage. Jones led all scorers with 13 points in the period, while Richmond paced the Pirates with 10.
Seton Hall made 57.9 percent (11 of 19) of its shots through the opening 20 minutes, but 13 turnovers prevented the Pirates from building a sizable lead.
Following a game-opening 8-3 run from Seton Hall, Ighodaro converted a pair of jumpers and a dunk as the Golden Eagles scored 13 of the next 16 points to take a 16-11 lead.
