John Clay and James White combined for 228 rushing yards and five touchdowns as Wisconsin ran over Big Ten foe Minnesota 41-23 on Saturday.

Scott Tolzien finished 18 of 24 for 223 yards and a touchdown for the Badgers, who bounced back after a tough loss at Michigan State last week. Wisconsin has an even tougher test next Saturday when No. 2 Ohio State visits.

Clinging to a 14-9 edge at the beginning of the third quarter, the Badgers went to the ground as Clay and White combined for seven rushes on an 11-play drive. White capped the drive with a 7-yard touchdown run. It was Clay’s turn on the next drive, as he rushed for a 4-yard score to push it to 28-9.

Clay and White each added a touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Wisconsin started quickly and looked like it would run away with the game in the first quarter, scoring on its first two drives to grab a 14-0 edge. Tolzien capped an eight-play drive at the 9:00 mark with a 3-yard touchdown pass. Clay capped a nine-play drive six minutes later with a 1-yard dive.

But the Golden Gophers responded in the second quarter with a field goal and a touchdown to cut it to 14-9 at the break.

Minnesota scored twice in the fourth quarter, but by then the deficit was too large.
