Columbus goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 46 saves for his sixth shutout of the season as the host Blue Jackets defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0 on Friday night in Columbus, Ohio.

Adam McQuaid, David Savard and Josh Anderson scored for Columbus, with two early goals providing the Blue Jackets with a cushion as the Hurricanes peppered Bobrovsky at times.

Bobrovsky stopped 22 second-period shots, as the Hurricanes held a 22-2 edge on shots but didn't change the scoreboard.

The pace faded significantly in the third period. Still, Carolina went on a power play with 3:07 to play and made it a 6-on-4 advantage by pulling goalie Petr Mrazek. That didn't work out for the Hurricanes, as Anderson scored into the empty net.

Carolina ended up with a 46-20 edge in shots.

Mrazek finished with 17 saves. He lost for the first time in his last seven appearances.

Both teams have 83 points, although Columbus has played one more game than Carolina.

The Hurricanes had gone 11-1-2 across their last 14 road games, including a shutout victory earlier in the week at Colorado. They hadn't been shut out since Dec. 29.

The Blue Jackets have won three of their past four games. The shutout was their third in a month's span.

Columbus came out strong after a sterling finish in its previous game, a defeat of the Boston Bruins 7-4 on Tuesday. Now, the Blue Jackets will head off on a four-game road trip after a couple of impressive outcomes at home.

McQuaid scored barely three minutes into the game. His third goal of the season, it ended a 12-game scoring drought.

About three minutes later, Savard made it 2-0.

The Hurricanes had left winger Micheal Ferland back in the lineup after he missed two games with an upper-body injury sustained last week.
